Overall description of capabilities

Project Timeline: 5/17/2012 - 4/30/2014

In partnership with the University of California, Berkeley and the California Department of Public Health, Genetic Disease Screening Program staff, Sequoia Foundation will assess the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying fetal growth and childhood leukemia by providing UC Berkeley with archived newborn blood specimens for approximately 4000 cases and 4000 controls identified for analysis in this study. Genetic and epigenetic analysis will be conducted by the University of California, San Francisco. Sequoia Foundation will have the primary role of identifying the study population based on birth state file number and birth year, and the availability of specimens and or data from newborn screening records. The Foundation will also be responsible for pulling, labeling, tracking, sampling, and shipping the 8000 newborn blood spots from CDPH, as well as re-bank newborn blood spots unused by the University of California investigators.
