Project Timeline: 2011
Sequoia Foundation, in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health, held an environmental health symposium for promotores de salud (health promoters) and community health workers. In many Hispanic communities, promotores play a key role in advancing the wellbeing of the neighborhoods they serve. The forum trained the workers in practical information on environmental and occupational health issues of importance to their families, communities, and workplaces. Staff from the Sequoia Foundation, the Environmental Health Investigations Branch, the Occupational Health Branch, the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch, and the Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion participated in the symposium. Presentations were simultaneously interpreted to Spanish. Representatives from 25 California counties participated in the forum.
