For this project, Sequoia Foundation obtained necessary permissions and gathered the appropriate data for the study from the California Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects, Office of Vital Records, and the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).
Staff then conducted linkages of the DDS data on autism and other developmental disabilities to birth certificates and prepared a file that included cases and non-cases of autism for children born in the years 1987 through 2000, all linked to the perinatal birth-infant death file, including variables form birth certificates and DDS systems.
